The Lorentz Formula
Created in 1929, the Lorentz formula calculates a theoretical ideal weight based on your height and gender:
For men::
Ideal weight = Height – 100 – ((Height – 150) / 4)
For women:
Ideal weight = Height – 100 – ((Height – 150) / 2.5)
Medical Use
Although theoretical, this formula is notably used in geriatrics in the calculation of the GNRI (Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index).However, it remains just one indicator among others and should be interpreted with caution.
